Just spotted on the streets of downtown Portland. Mismatched wheel covers? Check. Heavy clearcoat peel? Check. Black carriage roof? Check indeedy.
The blandest Corolla ever gets all the public humiliation it deserves. And it pleases me.

The roofs on these have a tendency to develop surface rust. I’m wondering if the silly roof was a cheaper solution than having it repainted.

Cars don’t tend to rust all that much in Oregon. Plus this roof looks old enough to have been added early in the car’s life.

What’s weird is that cars don’t rust here in south Texas either yet I see corollas of that vintage with rusty roofs. You’re probably right that it was added early tho. Probably even by the original dealer.

Yeah, I’ve seen bad clearcoat on a lot of Corollas of this vintage, and some roof rust. But not as much as you have.

Saw one the other day that looked fine except for a totally brown roof. Was so weird. Hopefully I’ll catch it again and take a picture. The sun and dust can wreak havok on paint here. In the last month I’ve seen a Juke and a 9th gen Civic with major clear coat damage. Cars here can start to peel within a few years. Nissan and Honda seem to be the worst victims.

That top doesn’t look so bad from a distance.
